Huons, U.S. Patent Registered for 'Quisqualis Extract' for Prostate Health Improvement

Huons is entering the U.S. prostate health functional food market through the use of "Quisqualis Extract Powder."

On the 5th of Sep., Huons Co., Ltd., led by CEO Song Soo-young and Yoon Sang-bae, announced that the "Quisqualis Extract" recognized as an individual-recognized raw material for men's prostate health has obtained a patent for its original technology from the US Patent Office.

This patent covers the technology related to a composition for preventing or treating prostate hypertrophy that contains "Quisqualis Extract" and can also be used as a health functional food, not only for the prevention or treatment of prostate hypertrophy.

Huons has obtained patents not only in the domestic market but also in Europe (five countries), Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and now the United States, which confirms the raw material's value. The company plans to continue acquiring global patents to protect its technology. 

"Quisqualis Extract Powder" is an individual-recognized raw material for improving prostate health, developed through joint research with Chungnam National University since 2017. Huons obtained exclusive rights by transferring the technology for Quisqualis Extract Powder from Chungnam National University (Professor Kwon Hyo-jung of Veterinary Medicine) and succeeded in developing the technology and commercialized it. Quisqualis is a vine belonging to the Quisqualis family and is native to Myanmar and Malaysia. It has been widely used as a traditional herb and is mentioned in Donguibogam and Boncho Gangmok, traditional Korean medicinal texts.

Quisqualis Extract Powder showed significant results in individual items such as improvement in the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) total score, as well as nighttime urination, urgency, residual urine, frequent urination, difficulty urinating, urinary retention, delayed urination, discomfort in daily life, and weak urination in human application tests.

Prior to human application tests, animal experiments also demonstrated a significant decrease in prostate weight and factors related to tissue growth when Quisqualis Extract Powder was administered orally.

Especially, within six months of product launch, it received recognition for its technological value by winning awards such as the "Global Power Brand Award," "IR52 Jang Young Sil Award," and "Nobel Science and Technology Excellence Award."

Prostate-related diseases are common symptoms of male menopause, but due to the nature of urinary tract conditions, many patients tend to be passive in seeking hospital treatment, leading to a frequent increase in the prevalence of these diseases. Therefore, Huons expects a high demand for this product among middle-aged and elderly men, as it enables them to proactively prevent and manage prostate conditions in their daily lives.
